The Parish of St. Mark is pleased to bring you internationally recognized conductor, organist and teacher, James O’Donnell to present a special organ concert on Sunday evening, May 12 at 7:00 pm.
In 2023 Mr. O’Donnell retired from Westminster Abbey where he had served for 23 years as Organist and Master of Choristers at the Abbey. During his tenure there, O’Donnell was responsible for all musical aspects of the Abbey’s work, training and conducting the Abbey Choir in its daily choral services, recordings, concerts, and broadcasts and at the great national occasions for which the Abbey is known, including directing the music for the September 2022 State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, which was broadcast live throughout the world to an estimated audience of over 4 billion people and the 2011 wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton. He has toured extensively with the Choir of Westminster Abbey to the United States, the Far East, Australia, and Europe. O’Donnell currently serves as Professor in the Practice of Organ at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music and the Yale School of Music, where he teaches graduate-level organ majors and other students in sacred music and directs a newly established professional liturgical vocal ensemble. O’Donnell is also Visiting Professor of Organ and Choral Conducting at the Royal Academy of Music in London, having served that institution as Professor of Organ from 1997 to 2004. He continues to serve Westminster Abbey as Organist Emeritus.
